Travel Advisors and Travel Insurance Companies:
The USTIA Travel Advisor Registry is a one-stop resource that helps connect travel businesses who offer travel insurance to the insurance providers whose products they offer, and critical information about that offering.
For travel advisors, the Registry provides centralized training and resources to stay in compliance with new travel insurance licensing regulations recently passed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL). Thanks to these regulations, which were supported by USTIA and the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), travel advisors can offer travel insurance compliantly without incurring the costs of licensing as an insurance agent in multiple states, in most cases.
However, as part of the system, travel advisors are required to undergo training and register with each travel insurance provider whose product they want to offer. The required training is a valuable review of definitions, rules, policies, and ethical obligations with respect to offering travel insurance on behalf of an insurance provider.
Until now, travel advisors might be required to complete multiple trainings and register with multiple companies (including cruise lines and tour operators offering insurance) in order to stay compliant. USTIA’s centralized industry resource has created a space where travel advisors can register via a web-based system and be registered with one – or more – member insurance providers.
Because the USTIA Registry makes it easier for travel advisors to identify the companies whose product they offer, and facilitates compliance for both travel advisors and providers, the entire industry will benefit from this registry.
USTIA is proud to have led the charge on this industry-wide effort, for the benefit of the travel insurance community and the entire industry.*For information on specific states, refer to USTIA’s Travel Advisor Training.
